HELP US RESPOND TO THE RECENT CATASTROPHIC EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI

A major earthquake measuring 7.0 magnitudes on the Richter scale hit Haiti January 12. The initial quake lasted about a minute, followed by strong 5.9 and 5.5 aftershocks. The epicenter of Haiti’s earthquake was six miles west of Carrefour, just outside the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The full extent of loss of life or property damage is not yet known, but Bill Dawson, French Field Strategy Coordinator, emailed to say that the situation is grave and urgent. Click here to find out how you can help.

What is the Lew Leaf Project

Larry’s Hair Designers is dedicated to the traditions of quality service, education, discipline of art, and community participation, and in 2008 is initiating its new expansion plan to continue to serve the community, further the art of salon styling by training future generations of dedicated barbers, designers, and stylists, and to honor the traditions under which owner Larry Housden himself was groomed. The mission – and passion – of Larry’s Hair Designers is to give back through hard work, dedication to craft, and concern and assistance for those in need.

As many of you may already have read, I am sponsoring the New Leaf project for the needy in our area. To launch the onset of our 2009 business strategy, we have elected to begin with a special monthly event focused on charitable work in our area. The salon will open its doors to the needy on the second Monday of every month. The purpose is to give them a chance to “turn over a new leaf”, or just to have much-needed care and grooming. In the upcoming year, the salon proposes to hold a job fair (s) in conjunction with this hair care service, focusing on educational opportunities, such as trade school, continued education, helping to place interns, and providing potential job opportunities for youth entering the job market. Attendees will receive grooming, and “glad bags”, filled with hygiene products, information, and items such as pre-paid phone cards and bus passes. We feel that this event will be one of the first “Pay-it-forward” programs in our area.

We are requesting from our friends, neighbors, local churches, government agencies, non profit, and not for profit agencies support in the way of word of mouth to those in your own congregation, office, or clientele that need assistance. Reaching the needy, the poor, the “I need a haircut or I’ll lose my job”, the “I need a hair cut for this interview so I can get a job”, the children of those down trodden that need to see someone cares, that is the purpose of New Leaf. Each individual can also sponsor a hair cut for the needy.

Sponsor a Hair Cut. It only takes a minute…. Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! Larry’s is asking 1,050 people to donate $2.50 each. You can stop by the salon, or mail in your donation, to sponsor hair care to the homeless, needy, less fortunate and underprivileged today.
